When Jesus arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother. Luke 8: 51

Jesus led me to a question after reading Luke 8 today: “Why had Jesus brought only Peter, John and James and not the others into the house of Jairus? Why could not the other nine apostles get in? The reasons may be:
1. Jesus used most of the time to train only those three apostles.
2. Other nine apostles were not ready to witness that miracle and only those who were ready could receive.

So, what I have received is:
1. Who will be my Peter, John and James that I will spend most of the time with as my apprentices?
2. Don’t press on those who are not ready to receive the things they are not ready to receive.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to be able to use my time wisely to train apprentices in your way. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” Luke 7: 4-5
Jesus led me today to see how lovely, sweetly and powerful this Roman army officer was: caring for his own servant, love people of other nation (Jews) and built a synagogue (church) for them. By these virtues and character he was being love and respected by Jews, people not his own countrymen. By this he developed his “great faith” and that he could experience Jesus miracle through his faithfulness.

We need to pray for having the “sight” as Jesus did to accept, care and love for this foreigner. Where can I find these kind of “great faith” people to built our church in the next few years?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to love and to be loved by people that I don’t know well just as this centurion lived out. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he alsodesignated apostles. Luke 6: 12-13

I have heard many leadership problems happened in various churches. Wrong selection, inappropriate appointments, misunderstandings and other problems lead a church to decline.

Jesus led me to see how he prayed over-night before choosing his apostles. I think we need an over-night prayer vigil before every vestry and every time we make our annual selection of leaders. But how many churches are doing this in a Jesus way? Well, may be our problem is just like what Jesus says at the end of this chapter. We know lots of Jesus ways, Jesus secrets, Jesus models but we never do it!!! How sad! On the other hand, do you know that today is day 71 of our 100 days/24 hours prayer campaign? Have you joined us to pray over-night? Please click the link below to join.

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.” Luke 6: 46-49

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help our churches learn you way of doing things and do it. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.” Luke 5: 10

We often say, “Catch you later.” Today Jesus led me to think of “Catch Jesus now”!

All our life has been thinking of how to catch more “fish”. For a businessman, fishes are stocks, money, fame… For a pastor, fish are new converts. If we can catch every moment to be with Jesus, then we know how to catch fish and experience the joy of catching fish. If we can catch up with Jesus, then we can walk with Jesus daily in a pace that we will never weary. Have you heard of “Holy Spirit is to be caught and not taught”?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help us to catch you up before thinking of catching anything. For we are not going to catch anything without catching you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Jesus, FULL of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. Luke 4: 1-2

Jesus led me to the word “FULL of the Holy Spirit”. In my NIV version the word “FULL” is in capital letters, very unusual!

Even Jesus had to be full of the Holy Spirit before facing Satan’s attack. How can we win against the Deceiver’s 360 degree attack if we are not “FULL” of the Holy Spirit daily?

What are those things that we are “full” of each day? Full of work, food, television, unhealthy thoughts… Wow! I can write more, but not “FULL” of the Holy Spirit!

Come Holy Spirit! Fill me that I can taste, experience and exercise the fullness of you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

The Word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the desert. He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins…”You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.” Luke 3: 2-8

When did the Word of God come to you last time? If your answer is, “just five minutes ago when I was reading Luke 3,” then you are “on track” for you have a relationship with Jesus daily.

When the Word of God come to John he received a bundle of gifts from the Lord:
1. New location of ministry – from the desert to all the country around the Jordan(v. 3)
2. New mission – preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins(v.3)
3. Fulfillment of a prophecy – What Isaiah the prophet prophesized(v.4-6)
4. New daily provision of Word from the Lord – Saying what God told him to say(v.7-14)
5. New purpose of life to other people – Produce fruit in keeping with repentance(v.8)
6. New understanding of who he is – He is not the Messiah(v.15-18)
7. New courage – Courage to rebuke the king(v.19)
8. New willingness to undergo great suffering – to be locked up in prison(v.20)

How many of these eight gifts have you received? How many of those you do not want to receive and marked “Return to Sender”?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank you for preparing me to have the ministry of John the Baptist to prepare the way for you. Help me to be willing to enter into this path fully and not partly. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

“This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.” Luke 2: 34-35

Recently a mother shared with me how joyful and painful it was to her when she knew that her son decided to become a priest. She put her right hand to her heart and said, “I feel the pain in me and for what would become of him.” I said, “What do you mean?” She said, “Because many of his own people will hurt him and I don’t know whether he can bear that or not.”

When I was having my devotion reading Luke 2 today, Jesus reminded me of this mother’s words and her way of putting her hand to her heart to show her pain.

Following Jesus is never easy! In the past 21 years of being a priest, I really see the reality of these two verses. I have seen the falling and rising of many people because of me and how I become an object to be spoken against. And the thoughts of so many have been revealed. In Chinese words, “The longer distance it is, the more you will know whether it is a good horse or not.” And both my wife and I have experienced the pain of being pierced by swords of words, deeds and treats.

Have you prepared for these kinds of things to happen in your life yet?!

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to be always prepare to suffer with you that I can truly follow you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

“Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous – to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Luke 1: 16-17

He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, or else I will come and strike the land with a curse. Malachi 4:6
I am in tears when I am writing this devotion. Jesus led me to have a confession that I have not listened to and obeyed his command four months ago. I was called to be a discipler for my son Athanasius and his best friend Vance 40 weeks ago. I went to Vance home with Athan at first five times a week and then diminishing to one-to-two times a week. I thought at first I could teach them to have daily devotion in in three months time and then they could go auto-pilot. But the Lord said I need to go on at least for a year. Then He told me four months ago, “Even you can’t go to Vance home daily but you can have devotion with Athan daily.” I told Athan and he was so happen knowing that I am going to have daily devotion with him daily. But, I didn’t do it! In my heart I know that I need to but I have excuses that he is busy and I am busy so the time with Vance is enough.

I know that the importance of the role of John the Baptist should be every Christian’s role. But today is the first day I know to prepare the way for Jesus as a John the Baptist we really need to be a better father in Jesus’ standard. We can see the curse of how Malachi describes is all over this world. I know a number of youth and adults have been searching for a father’s figure for years but have not found yet. Most of their fathers treated them badly when they were young.

Have you thought that your role as a father should be like John the Baptist: to be filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit, to turn your heart to your children’s first. Then your children’s hearts can have a better opportunity to our Heavenly Father and to you? It doesn’t say 'mother' here so I guess most of the mothers have been doing a good job but not fathers!

So fathers, wake up to be a better father following the good example of John the Baptist to prepare the way for Jesus.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to be a better father Lord! Holy Spirit, fill me and empower me that I can lead my sons to you that they can be a joy and blessing to many people. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

If Jesus eleven apostles could be rebuked by Jesus as lack of faith and stubborn refusal of believing his resurrection, can we be better off? I don’t think so!

How can we acknowledge our stubbornness and lack of faith so that we understand the significance of asking our Lord Jesus Christ to help our unbelief is a key to “see” Jesus!

Dear Lord Jesus,

I admit that I am a man with lack of faith and am so stubborn to refuse your guidance. Help me Lord! Open my eye to see you and receive your guidance and provision. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Mark 15: 8 Jesus this morning led me to underlined those words of what people did to Him. Every word became a vivid movie clip to me of how much Jesus loves me, that He suffered that much: Bound, led away, handed over, accused, crucify, crucify, flogged, crucified, struck, mocked, crucify, crucified, crucified, charged against, crucified, hurled insults, crucified, heaped insults. If my wife, my sons, my mom, my sister, my brother…suffer that much for me so that I can be changed to be more Christ-like, how do I feel? How do you feel? Can you see His Cross and His love for you and be changed?! Are you willing to bear your own cross for Him? What is that cross recently? Can you name it out? It’s not easy to name it without prayers. And it would be more difficult to be willing to bear your cross for Jesus without prayers! We are unable, only He is able! He’s able, He’s able, I know He’s able! I know he’s able to carry me through! He heals the broken hearted. And set the captive free… It is so wonderful now that Jesus leads me to sing this hymn again and again. I am so joyful, yes so joyful indeed! Praise the Lord! Dear Lord Jesus, Thank you for dying on the Cross for me. “She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.” Mark 14: 8
What a contrast that a woman used up all the perfume which cost a year’s wages to pour on Jesus head and then Judas went out to sell Jesus for the same amount of money!

Jesus asked me to read 2 Corinthians 2: 14 – 17 this morning and so I did:

But thanks be to God, who always heads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.

I was in shock after reading that. I can smell the aroma of Christ just by reading the woman’s willingness to give all she had. I can smell the stingy smell of Judas when I read how he left Jesus at the same time when the woman was anointing Jesus. What an irony!

When was the last time you give Jesus similar offerings with a year’s wages?! Never?!
I think we need to do that at least once in our life time. Pray and wait for that moment to come!

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to offer what I have to you just like what the woman did. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

“If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: Watch! “ Mark 12: 41

Jesus told me this morning one warning and two critical duties:

The warning: Are you sleeping?

The two critical duties:
1. Do you know what kind of “assigned task” do you have from Jesus?
2. Are you those who are assigned to “keep watch” at the door?

I think a very large number Christians have been sleeping for a long time! I should be one of those for many years until these three to four years. I still want to sleep but the Lord Jesus Christ uses all kinds of method to wake me up and remind me of my “assigned task”. I know that I am one of those who need to “keep watch” at the door as a prayer warrior and I try my best to keep my soul and “eye” open to keep watch.

I wish there are more to understand and live out these two critical duties. You know how devastating it can be when those soldiers who are assigned to keep watch slept?! Do you know how destructive it can be when the soldiers in a warfare are not performing their “assigned duties”?! But, the worst thing is this:

WE DO NOT KNOW THAT WE ARE IN A SEVERE SPIRITUAL WARFARE!!!

George Hunter in his book , To spread the Power: Church Growth in the Wesleyan Spirit, clearly states Charles Wesley's four-stage process for the nuturing of Christians:
1. Awaken people
2. Enroll awakened people in a class(three months)
3. Teach awakened enrolled people to expect to experience their justification.
4. Teach justified people to expect to experience their sanctification in this life.

This is a system established early in the 18th century and just been discovered by leaders in the past twenty years as a solid small group system. Hunter says Wesley observed that awakening people without folding them into redemptive cells does more harm than good. In a journal entry of 1743 he declares,

The devil himself desires nothing more than this, that the people of any place should be half-awakened and then left to themselves to fall asleep again. Therefore, I determine by the grace of God not to strike one stroke in any place where I cannot follow the blow.”

Twenty years later, the principle had become even more resolute in his Journal, August 25, 1763:

I was more convinced than ever that the preaching like an apostle without joining together those that are awakened and training them up in the ways of God, is only begetting children for the murderer…How much preaching has there been for these twenty years all over Pembrokeshire. But no regular societies, no discipline, no order or connection; and the consequence is that nine in ten of the once awakened are now faster asleep than ever.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me to keep watch and call others to wake up! In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Mark 12: 41

What if Jesus is watching how you make your offering or not making any offering every Sunday? Does that change your attitude towards offerings?

Every time when I see offering bags pass by people and they don’t put it anything, I have a very sad feeling. Do they offer only once a month so today is not that week? Are they tithing or are they stealing money from God by not tithing?

Do you give from your extra or do you give like the widow? Which kind of offering is Jesus calling you to do?

My wife and I received a challenge and invitation to make an extra offering today while we were having our daily devotion together. How about you?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to have the faith and courage to offer more than I can afford. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

“My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations”
Mark 11: 17

Today Jesus asked me a question: What if your church is a house of prayer?

He led me to recall a painful happening in 1995 when my brother Dennis came from Hong Kong to visit me. I brought him to a church to have a visit. When he entered, he cried loudly. I asked him why he was so sad. He told me that he felt that church was not a house of prayer but a church filled with divisions, bitterness, accusation, darkness and unforgiving spirits. We then sang hymns and prayed for that church to have a revival. And revival did come later.

What if your church is not a house of prayer?

Christians should know how to pray and the importance of prayers. But in reality the lowest attendance in most churches is always prayer meetings. It’s usually less than 10% of the Sunday attendance. Lucy, one of our parishioner, told us tonight during our couples house group that for two weeks she kept on checking whether our 60 days/24 hours Prayer Campaign had been filled up or not. She said she was relieved to see it was all being filled up a few days ago. There are only 95 individual names in the list. Is that a good sign? Is ACiC a praying community? Is Richmond Emmanuel Church a praying church? We have around 950 people in ACiC churches and we have 95 people joining our 60 days/24 hours Prayer Campaign! A very accurate number of the 10%!

What if your church is a house of prayer?
Then the people in our church will be mightily used by Jesus to be a channel to bring healing and blessings to all nations! I wish this time will come! Please come to pray at our weekly prayer meeting this Saturday at 9a.m. We need you!

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help our church to be a house of prayer for all nations. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Some of you told me that you cannot get in the link to read my son Ignatius’ sharing yesterday. So, please see below:

I Am Ignorant Ignatius Ng

My heart aches and I tremble with awe. How can I be so ignorant?I’ve read the first 50 pages of “Never Silent” by Bishop Thaddeus Barnum. It is an astonishing book sharing the story of the strength of faith in African Bishop John Rucyahana. This is a man who witnessed the massacre killings of the evil Ugandan president Idi Amin and persevered in faith despite risk of death. John went to study for his Masters of Divinity in the States and was eventually doing God’s work by preaching to various churches and sharing his story.John firmly preached God’s word. Yet, several American Christians, and even priests, called John “ignorant” and “primitive” for believing so adamantly in the Scriptures. These “educated” Americans thought that an African such as John should learn from America’s well developed theologies and gain greater knowledge.Wait a second...What?John is a man who endured actual persecutions for his faith, including having a gun pointed to his head. He has witnessed the power of Jesus raising up the church in Uganda, which has grown so vastly in the past 20 years that the Christians who go to worship on Sunday far exceeds the Episcopalians (Anglicans) in America. John knows the saving grace of Jesus. It is a living faith and relationship. This is what John preaches. And yet these Americans think him ignorant and primitive?Tears were flowing from my eyes as I painfully read through these pages. I felt a sense of pain and awe overwhelming me. I thought to myself: Isn’t this like the pride I take in my knowledge of theology? Am I like these overeducated Americans who excel at talk yet fall short of action? While we are sitting comfortably and complacently at church, Christians in Africa are dying for their faith; yet, their numbers continually soar. They don’t need to learn from us; we need to learn from them. It is ignorant to think that our education makes us superior in knowledge or faith. We must stop naively thinking that we can solve church conflicts or revive the church with our experience and efforts. We, I, must listen to God in order to do his will.I’ll end with a quote from John responding to a reporter who called the African church ignorant and primitive:
“You see, in my country, people are coming to a living faith in Jesus Christ. It is where I met Jesus. I didn’t meet Him in seminary or in a theology classroom...Did you know in Uganda we have many more Anglicans attending church on Sunday mornings than Episcopalians in your big country? You should check your facts. So, if you call us Africans ignorant and primitive, simple and uneducated, then I would be happy to give my seminary degree back and be called those names with my people”
Now, let's pray together for our city, for our country, for our world. Let's take a stand and do only God's will.Blessings to you all!

"It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied.
Mark 10: 5

Today when I was reading Mark 10, I heard Jesus said many time, “You need to have a soft and obedient heart! You need to have a soft and obedient heart! You need to have …

What I have got are two different hearts in six situations:
1. A hard and disobedient heart (Mark 10: 1 -12): How the Israelites divorce their wives
2. A soft and obedient heart (Mark 10: 13-16): The heart of little children
3. A hard and disobedient heart (Mark 10: 17-31): The heart of the rich young man
4. A soft and obedient heart (Mark 10: 32-34): How Jesus was willing to be betrayed and crucified.
5. Two hard and disobedient hearts (Mark 10: 35-45): The covetous of James and John
6. A soft and obedient heart (Mark 10: 46-52): The zeal of the blind man

I have been teaching a four sessions Discipleship class since last Saturday using Bishop Thad Barnum's book "Never Silent" and a DVD set of his three morning devotion on the book of Colossians of this year's AMiAs Winter Conference. My son, Ignatius, wrote a very moving reflection after reading the first 50 pages of this book showing a good example of what a soft and obedient heart can be. DAY 58 - To be transfigured by the light of Christ

Today’s Reading: Mark 9

There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. Mark 9: 2-3

Quite a number of people asked me these few weeks somewhat like this, “Silas, you look so bright and spirit-filled. I have been worrying about you in this first month of being a bishop. Any secret?” It is such a confirmation of the fruits of our 100 days/24 hours prayer and the spending of more time in my daily devotion.

Jesus leads me to think of the devastating reality that only 10% Christian are having daily devotion and even if we have one, it might be like a study, a routine discipline and a time to get more information. Daily devotion needs to be relationship rather than knowledge, enjoyment rather than a routine discipline and transformation rather than information.

What I have got today from the Lord is that what happened in Mark 9, Matthew 17 or Luke 9 was not a single incident of Jesus transfiguration but a daily experience of Jesus. It was a vivid demonstration to His three apostles about the secret of His intimate time with the Father and the two prophets, Moses and Elijah, representing the law and the prophets. I think of the movie Night at the Museum, everything and everyone become real! If we read the Bible and it is only past tense, then what is the difference from reading a book whose author died long time ago? The Word of God is a living Word! Jesus can talk to you, laugh with you, cry for you and embrace you daily!

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to enter into the light through my daily devotion as you entered daily to be transformed, speak to and loved by our Heavenly Father. And that I won’t be deformed into darkness, depression and hopelessness but to be transfigured by the light of you . In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

“Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember?"
Mark 8:18

It is so easy to forget what the Lord has taught us. Right after the feeding of the four thousands, the disciples still felt insecure about not bring enough bread! I feel the pain of Jesus when he said, “Don’t you remember?”

We should have experienced the similar experience. You have used lots of time, love, energy and everything to help someone but later you find out that that person not only totally forgot how you helped him/her but to do something against you! That is so sad! But it would be more painful if you are that person who forgets!

Dear Lord Jesus,

“What comes out of a man is what makes him ‘unclean’”. Mark 7:20

Almost every time I read this passage about how unclean a man could be, I think of other people. Who are those people who have evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly? And I asked the Lord to do something to those disobedient people to make our world, our society and out church clean.

Today the Lord shows me He is talking about the reality of a human being. We are all unclean for there are lots of things within that make us unclean. If we know that we are unclean, then we have a chance to ask the Lord to help us just like how the woman asked Jesus to help her daughter or how those people asked Jesus to heal the deaf.

Do we know that Jesus was talking about us? Do we know we are unclean and need the blood of Jesus to cleanse us? Do you know how unclean you are?

Dear Holy Spirit,

Shine of me that I can see my sins and that I know how to repent and ask for your forgiveness. I need your blood to cleanse me that I can have a clean heart to serve you.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

“Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. Mark 6:31

Jesus leads me to meditate on the word “desolate” today. NIV uses three words to translate the same Greek word as “quiet”(v.31), “solitary”(v.32) and “remote”(v.35). ESV gets that more accurate by using just one word like the Greek one - “desolate”.

Why did Jesus want them to go to a desolate place? That was right after Jesus sent the twelve apostles two-by-two to practice what they learned. The second part of Mark 6: 31 gives us a good picture of the busy-ness of the coming and going of people that they had no leisure even to eat.

Jesus asked His apostles to go to a desolate place to rest. It was in the desolate place that they didn’t get any rest but had to feed five thousand men. It was in the same desolate place that Jesus performed His miracle of five loaves and two fishes.

We don’t want to go to “desolate” places but to stay in our own places to work, to play, to have entertainment or just to be busy. Most people don’t need Jesus nor His mighty work in their lives for we do not have time to have that. How sad! Do you know Jesus is calling you now to a desolate place to meet Him more daily?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to be willing to go to the desolate place daily to meet you and experience the power of your presence. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed." Mark 5: 27 - 128

Jesus draws me to see the importance of His personal touch. Jairus wanted Jesus to touch his daughter and he believed by doing so his daughter would be healed and live. The woman touched Jesus and was healed. Then Jesus touched Jairus daughter and resurrected her.

Everybody wants to have a personal touch from somebody. Do you long for a personal touch from Jesus daily? Can you make an effort to come close to Jesus daily that you will receive His personal touch to you? That’s why Jesus invites me to write this 1,189 days of daily devotion just to make sure that I will be there every day to receive His personal touch. And indeed I have been touched daily since some 60 days ago since I wrote this blog daily. I do hope and pray that you can be blessed in this way.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank you for giving me a personal touch day after day. Grant me your anointing that I can bring more people into your personal touch daily. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Mark4:18 - 19

I am so sad when I heard a member of our church telling me that I am not going to see a dear brother for at least two month for he has been going out to sea every Sunday in a sailboat. And then he said, “You are not going to see me tomorrow for I have to take some photos for my friend.”

This is the real situation for the unfruitfulness of a Christian. What is more important than going to church to worship our Lord and King on Sunday? I would rather die if you forbid me to go to church on Sunday and yet these two young men don’t feel anything wrong of not going to church. I don’t think they have daily devotion either.

The Church is a real club for so many Christians that they have other clubs and choices to go to always and going to church or being close to Jesus is a very low priority. Are you one of them?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me not to be distracted by other desires that I can be a fruitful disciple of you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

He appointed twelve – designating them apostles – that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. Mark3:14-15

Jesus leads me to see two groups of people today:

Group 1 – looking for a reason to accuse Jesus(v.2); stubborn hearts(v.5); get other group of people to plot to kill Jesus(v.6).

Group 2 – Jesus called and come(v. 13)
Three marks(v. 13) – a. Always with Jesus
b. Prepared to be sent by Jesus to witness and preach
c. Have authority to drive out demons

Even so, one out of 12 joined the first group later. So sad!
When I was having devotion with Michelle, my wife, today she said, “That group of people thought that they did that for God. It’s so sad to see this kind of things happening even now!”

Do you know which group you are in? Are you so sure? Why? Do you have those marks if you are in group 2?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to receive those three marks that I can listen and obey to you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

“Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.. Mark2:14

Today Jesus draws my attention to two words and both of them appears 4 times in Mark 2:
Paralytic (v. 3,4,5 and 9)
Get up (v. 9, 11, 12 and 14)

Lots of time we are paralyzed because of our own sins. The paralytic had his, Levi had his and we have ours. It’s because of that we are paralyzed and cannot do what we need to do to honor Jesus and unable to follow Him.

So today, Jesus says, “Repent and your sins will be forgiven. Get up and follow me!”

Dear Lord Jesus,

I don’t want to be a paralytic, help me to get up and follow you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert. Mark 1:12

I was a little bit shocked when Jesus led me to meditate on Mark 1: 12. The Holy Spirit sent Jesus to a place! Did the Holy Spirit send Jesus to the solitary place in Mark 1: 35 to pray too? I think the Holy Spirit did send Jesus to that place.

What I received today is a Jesus pattern that we have to follow and live out. Without that nothing can be accomplished. The pattern is:
1. Baptized by the Holy Spirit (Mark 1: 8, 10)
2. Sent by the Holy Spirit (Mark 1: 12, 35)
3. Tempted by Satan (Mark 1: 13)
4. Protected by the Holy Spirit (Mark1: 10)
5. Minister by the angels (Mark 1: 13)

If we have not been baptized by the Holy Spirit, then we will not be sent by the Holy Spirit to a designated place to be tempted. Which means that, no matter what, we are going to be tempted anyhow. So, whether you face only no. 3 alone or to have the whole sequence, following Jesus' example is your own choice.

To make an example using the building up of the habit of daily devotion:
1. Baptized by the Holy Spirit(Baptized by the Holy Spirit should be a one time experience and the filling of the Holy Spirit could be daily. I was baptized by the Holy Spirit in 1996. Have you been baptized by the Holy Spirit yet?)
2. Sent by the Holy Spirit to be with the Heavenly Father daily just like Jesus did.
3. Tempted by Satan of various distractions like too busy, games, computer, work…etc.
4. Protected by the Holy Spirit to win over those temptations.
5. Minister by the angels of receiving peace, comfort, confirmation, energy…

May be it’s time for you to pray to the Holy Spirit to be baptized by Him if you have not been baptized by Him yet. Trust me, just pray, ask and you will receive! If you have been baptized by the Holy Spirit, then pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you that you can live through this Jesus pattern often.

Dear Holy Spirit,

Come and fill me, send me, protect me and comfort me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
