At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family - from beginning to end. For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons made themselves contemptible, and he failed to restrain them. 1 Samuel 3: 12 - 13

Jesus reminded me that about ten years ago a friend used this chapter to tell me that Ignatius and Athanasius were the two most naughty boys in our church, for I did not teach them well. She said that someday the same thing would happen to me and my two sons. I took her word very seriously and had Ignatius to sit down and told him what I heard. He was at that time twelve years old. Lots of things have happened after that time. I repented on not being a good father, and Ignatius started to read the whole Bible in just five months time. Praise the Lord that both my sons have become faithful disciples of Jesus now!

How well have you done as a father or mother? You are accountable for your children's sins!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Remind me always that I am accountable for my sons' sin. Help me to be a good father, coach and mentor to them. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Welcome! The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christians to have daily devotion - a wonderful and intimate time with Jesus.

There are three reasons for you to use this blog as your daily devotion:
  1. A healthy spiritual diet - One chapter of the Bible daily. We really need at least one chapter of Bible daily so that we are well fed.
  2. A good example of Spiritual Journaling - What I have committed for 1,189 days(the Bible has 1,189 chapters) to write this daily post is not for teaching purposes but this is my daily spiritual journal - I write down what I hear from Jesus and how I experience His intimate relationship with me each day. I have launched a wide-spectrum research on daily devotion and have found out that there are less than 10% of Christians that are having daily devotion. Out of that 10%, many having daily devotion are doing so because of guilt (they know that they are Christians and need to have daily devotion and feel guilty if they don’t do that), duty (they need to fulfill their duty as a Christian) or study(lots of Christians primarily use their daily devotion as a time to study the Bible). I do pray and hope that you will make up your mind to have a relational daily devotion so that you can have an intimate time with Jesus. I pray that you will write your own spiritual journal as well.
  3. An online discipler – One of the reasons that so many Christians do not have daily devotion is because they do not have a discipler. A discipler can help them build up this basic element of discipleship when they first become Christians. The best way for you is to have a discipler to walk with you for a certain period of time so that daily devotion become a good habit. Or, you may have a small group of two to three people to encourage and be accountable to each other so that you won’t stop your daily devotion. I offer myself as your online discipler to walk with you daily to enrich your spiritual journey. So, shall we start this journey with Jesus Christ our Lord now!

I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. i will firmly establish his house, and he will minister before my anointed one always. 1 Samuel 2: 35

How sad it is that we as human being always forget how God blessed us and insist on our own way. "Those who honor me I will honor" is the words God used through the 1982 movie "Chariots of Fire" to call me to become a priest.

Here in this chapter we see how sad it was that the priest Eli and his two sons displeased God. The scene of how Eric Leddell spoke in his heart when he was running the 400 meters winning the Gold medal for England in the 1924 Olympic Games, "When I run, I feel the pleasure of God!" As I was struggling severely with my ego and did not want to let go of a good career in the Hong Kong Government I watched the movie five times in a few weeks time. Each time God used the same two scenes to speak to me. The first one being the American sprinter gave a small note to Eric before he ran the 400 meters final. The note says, "As the Bible says, those who honor me I will honor." And then when Eric ran, the theme song with Eric's whispering sound, "When I run, I feel God's pleasure!"

I never turn back since then and God keeps His promise to me. When I run for Him the past 28 years I feel His pleasure. And when I honor Him He honors me in a very special way! Thank you Lord Jesus!

It is so difficult to be a faithful disciple or priest doing according to what is in God's heart and mind. But when you do that you will know how God firmly establish your house so that you can minister before our Lord Jesus Christ to to be anointed to minister to His people.

You need to take action today and not tomorrow, my dear friend!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for reminding me of so many sweet memories of the fruits and power for do according to your heart and mind. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Please click the links below to 1 Samuel 1:
So in the course of time, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, "Because I asked the Lord for him." 1 Samuel 1: 20

Jesus reminded me today of how Michelle and I finally decided to pray, asking God whether we should have a son 23 years ago. When we prayed together, in less than two months time we decided it was God's plan that we needed a son; then we knelt down and prayed before we went to bed that night. Michelle got Ignatius that night!

A similar thing happened 7 1/2 years later, for we forgot to pray whether we needed our second child. We prayed and then Michelle had Athanasius.

Were that two incidents coincidence? I don't think so. It was just we tried all human wisdom and methods but forgot to pray! Actually we taught this kind of simple prayer to quite a number of couples who wanted to have a child and for those who followed this simple way to pray, they got their children.

We know the importance of prayers but we often do not really pray, for sometimes we think it is to simple or too foolish to pray! Jesus says, "Ask and it will be given to you." We don't ask, so God let us use our own wisdom and method. Yes, you are right, sometimes even you ask you can not get because God will give you what He prepares. But, if you don't even ask, do you think you can do it alone? If you think so, then go ahead!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Teach me to be able to pray as often as I can and experience the power of prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Please click the links below to Ruth 4:
Then Naomi took the child, laid him in her lap and cared for him. The women living there said, "Naomi has a son." And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David. Ruth 4: 16 - 17

This chapter shows the fruit of total obedience. Jesus asked me a question? Whom do you think is more important in this chapter, Naomi or Ruth?

This is the Book of Ruth; of course Ruth should be the most important person in this book. But, without Naomi who was Ruth's godly coach, nothing would have happened. It seems to me that Naomi had a harder role to show her godly character(Christlikeness in Christian terms) so that Ruth had a coach and mentor to follow. A coach is to pull out what you have inside to bring you to the next level. A mentor is to 'put in' so that you can be equipped to be ready for the next level. Naomi did both things! She did a good job and because of her faithfulness, King David and Jesus Christ could be born in her genealogy. Wow, that is such a great and blessed fruit of total obedience from both Naomi and Ruth.

Do you have a Naomi in your life? Are you willing to be a Ruth to exercise the total obedience so that God can work things through you in a mighty way?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me to exercise total obedience to you and to taste the fruit of total obedience. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

"I will do whatever you say," Ruth answered. So she went down to the threshing floor and did everything her mother-in-law told her to do.
Ruth 3: 5 - 6

Do you have a Godly mentor whom you can follow and do whatever he or she says? What would happen if Ruth did not have Naomi? I think that nothing would happen, and Ruth would be just an ordinary Moabite and that's all.

From what I experience, God will provide for us suitable mentors so that we can have a better opportunity to adjust our plan according to God's preparation and plan. Satan will try all our best to isolate us so that we have no one to follow, coach, mentor or advice and sooner or later we will fall into some kind of trap which comes from our pride or self-centreness.

You desperately need a Godly coach/mentor!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for giving me Godly coaches all these years. Help me to be a good coach and mentor to raise up faithful leaders for your Kingdom sake. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, "it will be good for you, my daughter, to go with his girls, because in someone else's field you might be harmed."
Ruth 2: 2

Jesus gave me a big Christmas gift this morning when I was leading our weekly Saturday prayer meeting at 9a.m., two hours before our Christmas Eucharist. When we were reading Ruth 1 as our daily devotion, I was on Ruth 2 for I finished Ruth 1 yesterday.

Jesus asked me one question? Why did Ruth follow Naomi in perfect obedience?
My eyes were opened at that time. Right, it was because Ruth saw God in her life that she said 'your God my God!

Our yearly sermon series next year will be: Christlikeness. Naomi is a perfect example of Christlikeness in action. It is such a blessing that we had 26 adults and 7 children baptized today in our Christmas service. I sincerely pray and hope that they can be an example of Christlikeness in action so that people can follow them to see Christ!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me to be an example of Christlikeness in action that people can follow me for they can see you in me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
