"
Grab your bags,
all you who are under attack.
God has given notice:
"Attention! I'm evicting everyone who lives here,

And right now—yes, right now!
I'm going to press them to the limit,
squeeze the life right out of them."

Jeremiah 10: 18

Bible Study

Jeremiah told the Jews that they foolishly depended on the idols, astrology and all kinds of evil practices by ungodly people from the surrounding nations because they fear of the invasion of the Babylonians. But in reality, they are being captured by the demonic powers that one day will destroy them.

The invasion and disaster will certainly come and Jeremiah voiced the same words of sorrow and grief that people would cry out after they were captured and scattered throughout the empire.

Jeremiah prays that the invaders would themselves experience God's anger and judgment that they so deserved.

My Spiritual Journal

What I receive from Jesus is: Press you to the limit so that you can return to me!

What I got from Jesus today is verse 18 from the Message.
Both translations, the Message and NIV, give us some important inspiration. In NIV the translation is "I will bring distress on them so that they may be captured." Captured by whom? Captured by God? Or, captured by the Babylonians? We as human beings always want to take God's position to lord and to capture so many things but never want to be captured by God so that He can be our Lord and King. That's why God will soon let us down so that we are being captured by all those things we do not want to happen in our lives in order that He can capture us and be our Lord and King.

That's how it means in the translation of the Message that God sometimes will press us to the limit, to squeeze everything out of us so that we can return to God! How sad! Do we have to insist in doing "my way" that God has to press us to the limit and squeeze everything out of us in order that we can do things in His way? "His way" is salvation and life, "My way" is destruction and death!

Which "way" are you going to choose?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to understand how much you love us that you want to press us to the limit so that we can return to you. Lead us to follow you each day and to help others to follow you each day that we can be in your protection and provision. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

Today's Reading: Jeremiah 9

Please click the links below to Jeremiah 9:

"The days are coming," declares the Lord,
"when I will punish all who are circumcised only in the flesh-
Egypt, Judah, Edom, Ammon, Moab and all who live in the desert
in distant places. For all these nations are really uncircumcised,
and even the whole house of Israel is uncircumcised in heart."

Jeremiah 9: 25-26

Bible Study

"Oh, that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears!" (v. 1)
"Let them come quickly and wail over us till our eyes overflow with tears
and water streams from our eyelids." (v. 18)

Jeremiah often is called the "weeping prophet" (9:1, 14: 17)because of all the tears he shed for people who were so spiritually stubborn and rebellious that they could not even comprehend how much they had defied God. They knew that was the reason why destruction was going to come but they did nothing spiritually to prevent it which means they did not repent at all!

Instead they boast in worldly knowledge, human ability and earthly riches(v. 23). That's why Jeremiah says they were not baptized in heart. So, what does it means that we are being baptized in heart? The answer is in verses 23 to 24. "Boast" means you take that as your best of your life. So, if uncircumcised in heart means the boasting of our wisdom, strength, riches. Then circumcised in heart means verse 24, taking the best of you as your daily intimate personal relationship with God! So simple, right?

We don't have to be circumcised but we do have to be baptized. So, "circumcised in heart" means the same as "baptized in heart".

Are you baptized in heart?

My Spiritual Journal

What I receive from Jesus is: Not baptized in heart!

What I heard from Jesus today is a sigh from Him because He knows well that many Christians have not been baptized in heart.

That's why we spend time and boast everything we treasure most like our wisdom, strength, riches and many more but rarely our daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus!

That's what Jeremiah means and that's what I heard from Jesus challenging you today.

Have you been baptized in heart?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to make sure whether we have been baptized in heart so that we don't boast in the wrong things. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
