“We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said. Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust. Acts 14: 22- 23

I see the order changed at this chapter. Before this chapter, it is Barnabas and Paul. Then after the life and death situation of Paul, the order is from now on: Paul and Barnabas. Barnabas, the teacher and the leader-in-charge has become the second chair, and Paul took over from him.

I also see some very familiar terms that a Christian leader usually face: Stir up some people and to poison their minds, to stone and kill, must go through many hardships…

Do not be afraid of hardships! It is because of all these hardships that we are being trained to be raised up to a new level to extend His Kingdom! Is that great!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me not to be afraid of hardships, and to be sure that they are just challenges for me to be raised up to a new level to serve you and extend your Kingdom. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. Acts 13: 2- 3

Jesus leads me to think of only two words today: fasting and prayers. He reminds me of how I have been taught and exercised the power of fasting and prayers and how most Christians know but do not exercise! Many people have not heard from the Holy Spirit. This may be the reason that they do not exercise fasting and prayers!

Do you know there are many slots still not being filled up in our 2nd phase 100 days/24 hours Prayer Campaign? Can you help to fill that up so that we can pray like never before? And perhaps you need to fast at least one meal a week to pray for ACiC/AI.

Dear Lord Jesus,Help me to fast and pray. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
Acts 12: 5

The Lord Jesus told me that I don’t need to worry about accusation and persecution. Just be concerned about whether I can call enough people to pray!

We need to learn the power of prayer. If the church is earnestly praying to God for someone, like when they were praying for Peter and concerned that he might die, the result was that Peter's persecutor died instead.

It is a good time to start our 2nd phase of 100 days 24/7 prayer campaign today. It’s so easy to say that we will pray, we know how to pray. It’s so difficult that we really trust in the power of prayers and really pray!

Dear Lord Jesus,Help me to stir up the hearts of more people to pray. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Prayer items today:
For ACiC/AI:
Bishop: The Rt. Rev. Silas Ng Network Leader: Rev. Peter Klenner Administrator: Mrs. Zenia Cheng

Pray for one ACiC/AI church:

When Barnabas found Saul, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. Acts 11: 26

The Lord Jesus leads me to think of a new paradigm through reading this chapter today. Before today, I see Antioch as a teaching centre to train Christians. Yes, indeed Antioch is a teaching centre to prepare Christians to be Christians. But Antioch is a place the Lord prepared for Saul to be an apprentice to learn under Barnabas. It’s a place for Barnabas to raise up his apprentice. And a place for both of them to release their gifts so that many could be trained. Most of all, it is “relational” and “missional”!

There are so many “churchians” and not as many “Christians”, for there is only teaching and learning but not relational building and missional living. May we learn from Barnabas to have our Antioch, and to raise up apprentices for at least a whole year’s commitment.

Dear Lord Jesus, Help me to see who are those people that you prepare for me to raise up, following Barnabas' good example. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

We are going to have another phase of 100 days of prayer tomorrow. I am calling you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ to fill in your names in the new list below. Cornelius and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly..."Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God." Acts 10: 2 - 4

Jesus asked me today when I was having my daily devotion, "Do you know what is your memorial offering before God?"

The lifestyle of Cornelius to give and pray regularly is a good reminder to me of what my memorial offering before God can be. It's just not the lifestyle of Christians nowadays. I see lots of Christians, including myself sometimes, that have two distinctive ways of lifestyle:
1. A consumer mentality to get: What have I got from today's sermon, bible style, daily devotion...I can't tithe for I have not got enough, I can't serve for I have no time...
2. Do not know how to pray, do not pray and do not understanding the power of prayers

As a gentile, Cornelius knew "to do what is right"(Acts 10: 34) in giving and in prayers. Do you know?

Dear L0rd Jesus,
Help me to do the right things according to the lifestyle that you want your children to have so that I can learn to give and to pray. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

We are going to have another phase of 100 days of prayer. We have two weeks time to complete our first time ever 100 days/24 hours Prayer Campaign and I am calling you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ to fill in your names in the new list below to pray for 100 days more. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord – Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here – has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. Acts 9: 17-18

Jesus opened my “eyes” to see all those people that he sent to help me 'see again'. I see how those servants of God laid their hands on me just like Ananias did to Saul. I see how those scales fell from my eyes so that I could see again. The Lord Jesus Christ helped me this morning to name all those people! It was such a wonderful and glorious moment!

Can you name them? Will you give thanks to the Lord for them and pray for them, so that they can be blessed as they blessed you?

Dear Lord Jesus,
I give thanks to you for sending so many of your servants to help me see again. Open my eyes and my life that I can be one of those helping others to see. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. Acts 8: 1

It states so clear in Acts 1:8 that disciples of Jesus will be His witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. But according to Acts 8: 1, no one moved to Judea and Samaria until Stephen was martyred and a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem.

In human’s eyes, we are always so discouraged when difficulties, disasters and persecution come. But in God’s eyes, this is always an opportunity to lead us back to him, a training and coaching to push us to the next level and to prepare us heading towards His destination and not ours.

Where are you heading?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to prepare myself to be trained and coached by you, heading to your destination. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events. Acts 5: 11

The Lord led me to open my eyes to see the whole event of how Ananias and Sapphira died because of lying to God and testing the Holy Spirit. It is quite a frightening kind of movie to watch and Jesus asked me, “What have you seen?”
I see the facial expression of all kinds of fear of those people. I see the adding of tremendous trust and faith of people towards God’s apostles. How could it be that people thought that even Peter’s shadow could bring healing?

Because we have no fear of the Lord, many people and Christians are doing their own things. Christians are not offering their tithing. For many, there is no daily devotion, no commitment…

May we have that kind of fear that we can live out a missional lifestyle!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me to experience the fear of you that I can have a total commitment to you and love you more day by day. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. Acts 4: 31

The people in early church were praying all the time. In this chapter, they were praying when Peter and John was seized. They were still praying when Peter and John were back. And, after they prayed, the place where they were praying was shaken.

Do you believe in the power of prayers like those that the disciples in the early church lived out? Could you just start by walking a small step: click our new 100 days prayer campaign and put down you name and see how God works when we pray like never before?

Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." 7Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. 8He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. Acts 3: 6 - 8

Peter said he had no silver or gold but he could make the crippled walk in the name of Jesus. Do you know what you have received? When was the last time that you exercised the power of the Holy Spirit to make someone healed, jumping and praising God? What have you received?

Dear Lord Jesus, remind me that it is only in you that I shall not be in want. It is only in your name that I can help people to be healed and that they can jump up to praise you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Peter said, "Change your life. Turn to God and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, so your sins are forgiven. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is targeted to you and your children, but also to all who are far away—whomever, in fact, our Master God invites." He went on in this vein for a long time, urging them over and over, "Get out while you can; get out of this sick and stupid culture!" Acts 2: 38 - 40

Can we get out of this sick and stupid culture? Do we know that we are in a sick and stupid culture? How can we get out?

Eugene Peterson’s Message translate the one word “repent” into today’s language: Change your life. Turn to God.

What are you focusing your whole life on daily? What kind of lifestyle are you having? There is no way of changing if we do not repent, and there is no power to change without the baptism of the Holy Spirit!

Change your lifestyle and turn to God! Get out while you can before it’s too late!

Come Holy Spirit, help me to change my life, my lifestyle that I can lift up my eyes to Jesus daily. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. ” Acts 1: 8

When I was reading this chapter, I thought of a recent incident. The power adapter of my computer was out of order last week. I was quite worried, for I couldn’t write my blog without that computer. No power, no blog!

I bought a new power adapter two days later, but because it was not made by the original brand, there are some minor problems when using the cursor. I think that maybe I will need to buy a power adapter made by the original brand, even though it is double the price of the one I had previously bought.

Jesus told His disciples to wait for the power of the Holy Spirit, and they waited. Without that power, they could not do anything. They learned that the hard way, and so they waited.

Have you waited enough until you receive the power of the Holy Spirit to do His Kingdom work? Is that the power adapter of the original brand so that you can get the authentic power source? How do you know?

Come Holy Spirit, I wait for you to pour down your power on me that I can be a witness for Jesus to do His Kingdom work. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24: 32

Jesus told me today how we can keep our hearts burning. He said: “It’s very simple: to talk and walk with me daily and let me open my Word to you.”

Is it really that simple? Yes, I think so. But usually we’ll do it in a more complicated way, and we’ll go nowhere.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to talk and walk with you daily through your Word so that my heart will keep burning. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23: 34

Jesus reminded me today, as I read this chapter, of all those times that I was misunderstood, accused, judged and nailed by words or by deeds. I was surprised. I thought that I had forgotten all those words and deeds but quite a number of those are still there. Then He opened my “eye” to see how painful it was for him on the cross. I heard Him said,

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

He then asked me, “Can you forgive them?” I said, “I can’t. Lord, help me to forgive them!”

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know that I cannot forgive those who hurt me. Help me to forgive. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed. Luke 22: 39- 41

The worst idea for a Christian is to think that we have the ability to win over Satan. In today’s reading, two of Jesus' apostles failed. Are you better than they were? Only if we admit that we are unable to beat Satan and only by following Jesus' way can we lead a victorious life for Jesus.

What I heard from Jesus is in three parts:
1. The two steps for Satan to control us are:
a. Satan enters –

Judas - Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. Luke 22:3
Peter - “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. Luke 22:31

b. Make consent to Satan’s trick

Judas - They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
Luke 22: 5-6

Peter - The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly. Luke 22: 61-62

2. The two steps for getting back to follow Jesus
a. To turn back-
But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, Luke 22: 32
b. To strengthen your brothers
And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. Luke 32

3. Jesus' secret to win over Satan – go out to pray as usual
Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, Luke 22: 39- 41

Jesus' apostles and disciples did not learn Jesus' secret until Jesus’ ascension. It is so difficult to learn this so simple but yet most important lesson for any Christian. They turned back, they gathered together to strengthen their brothers and sisters. And the most important thing was they gathered to PRAY!

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city. When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. Acts 1: 12 - 14

All Christians know that we need to pray, but not a lot of Christians really pray daily like Jesus did. How can we win over Satan? A Christian leader wrote to me three days ago reflecting his heart: Are we used by Jesus or are we 'using' Jesus?

All Christians know that we need to have daily devotions but only less than 10% or even 5% are having daily devotions. But Jesus did His daily devotions “as usual” daily!

Brothers and sisters, I don’t know how many of you are reading my blog and how many are blessed by it. But Jesus told me today that I need to have another phase of 100 days of prayer. We have two weeks time to complete our first time ever 100 days/24 hours Prayer Campaign and I am calling you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ to fill in your names in the new list below to pray for 100 days more. Many wonderful things have happened in the past 86 days. As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “I tell you the truth,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” Luke 21: 1- 4

Have you ever thought of why Jesus spent time sitting in the temple watching people put in their offerings? He didn’t praise the rich men for putting their offerings, for they offered out of their wealth. He praised the widow, for she offered out of her poverty.

Have you ever thought that every time you put in or do not put in your offering, Jesus is watching you? Does that change your attitude and heart regarding your offering?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank you for offering your life to save me. Help me to offer what I have so that your Kingdom will be extended. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Would you, please, spend some time now in silence asking the Holy Spirit to reveal what are those things that you have not given to God that is God’s?

Who is the king of your life? Or, are there quite a number of kings lording over your life?
Who are those kings? Busyness, TV, money, internet, facebook, video games, pop stars, fame…

But, do we know the consequence if we do not want Jesus to be our King?

Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?"
"Lord, I want to see," he replied. Luke 18:41

Lord, I want to see!

Lord, the Pharisee could not see how sinful he was but thought that he was righteous. Your disciples didn’t see you receiving children to come to you. The rich ruler didn’t see that his Lord is true wealth but he turned down your invitation. Those disciples who led the way rebuked the blind beggar and could not see that you wanted to help the man…

Lord, I want to see!

I want to be like the tax collector to see my sins. I want to be like those children who wants to be close to you. I want to be like the blind beggar to ask for you to open my eyes.

But why we always think that we can see but we are actually blind? Why are there so many blind leaders and Christian, including myself?

Oh, Lord Jesus I want to see! Open my “eye” to see!

Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come.” Luke 17:1

Jesus’ words brought up so many memories. I have seen so many times when what Jesus described has happened. They are disciples of Christ but through them things come that cause people to sin. If they are not Christians, that’s understandable but what Jesus is reminding here today is said to his disciples. How sad it is that as disciples of Christ we are so weak to let this happen in our lives!

What comes through you? Is it blessing or cursing?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to watch myself as Jesus warned me today that I will not be those person through whom sin come. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Jesus said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s sight. ” Luke 16:15

What are those things highly valued by you? Is it possible that some of those or all of those are detestable by God? How do you know?

When I asked these two questions after reading this passage, Jesus told me that the answer is in verse 13. If God is really your Lord, then you will serve Him and there won’t be anything in your life that you value so much would be detestable by God. Only if you do not have a true relationship with Jesus as your Savior and Lord of life, then you will get into big trouble.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to reveal my life to be sure that you are my Lord of life and that I have nothing in my life so valued that is detestable by you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you…” Luke 15:17-19

People like to say: It makes no sense. You have no sense at all. He has no sense and I don’t want to talk to him.

It’s so easy to think that other people make no sense at all. But here at Luke 15 when the younger son came into sense, everything changed! The older son is the one who really had not come into sense. He has been think all the time that his father is “slaving” him!

Is there anyone in your life that you think is “slaving” you? Is there anyone in your life you are “slaving”? It’s not easy to come to our senses! But we really need to come to our senses that we can enjoy the blessing as children of God.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to come in my senses that I can enjoy to be in your house and in your loving presense. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
