Today's Reading: 2 Kings 17

Please read 2 Kings 17 and listen to what the Lord Jesus Christ would like to tell you before reading my Spiritual Journal below. If you would like to learn a simple and good way of Daily Devotion method please read my “Count Down 5” from this blog. You may click this link directly for the method: Subject Shifting Devotion.pdf. (You may begin with a song to praise the Lord and complete you devotion by singing another praise song.)

Please click the links below to 2 Kings 17:

They worshiped other gods and followed the practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced. 2 Kings 17: 8

They worshiped the Lord but they also served their own gods in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been brought. To this day they persist in their former practices. 2 Kings 17: 33

They would not listen, however, but persisted in their former practices. Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols.

2 Kings 17: 40-41

This chapter shows very clearly why Israel was overthrown at last. The reason was very sad but simple: They worshiped other gods and followed the lifestyle of those people.

Lifestyle is the key to make a difference whether we are real Christians. If our lifestyle is just the same as those who have not received Jesus as their Lord and Savior and we claim to be Christians, we are just the same as the Israelites in this chapter. A lifestyle of Christlikeness is the most important sign to prove that we are not worshiping other gods.

Do you have a lifestyle of Christlikeness today?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help us to be able to change our lifestyle according to your likeness. In Jesus name we pray . Amen.

Welcome! The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christians to have daily devotion - a wonderful and intimate time with Jesus. There are three reasons for you to use this blog as your daily devotion:

  1. A healthy spiritual diet - One chapter of the Bible daily. We really need at least one chapter of Bible daily so that we are well fed.

  2. A good example of Spiritual Journaling - What I have committed for 1,189 days(the Bible has 1,189 chapters) to write this daily post is not for teaching purposes but this is my daily spiritual journal - I write down what I hear from Jesus and how I experience His intimate relationship with me each day. I have launched a wide-spectrum research on daily devotion and have found out that there are less than 10% of Christians that are having daily devotion. Out of that 10%, many having daily devotion are doing so because of guilt (they know that they are Christians and need to have daily devotion and feel guilty if they don’t do that), duty (they need to fulfill their duty as a Christian) or study(lots of Christians primarily use their daily devotion as a time to study the Bible). I do pray and hope that you will make up your mind to have a relational daily devotion so that you can have an intimate time with Jesus. I pray that you will write your own spiritual journal as well.

  3. An online discipler – One of the reasons that so many Christians do not have daily devotion is because they do not have a discipler. A discipler can help them build up this basic element of discipleship when they first become Christians. The best way for you is to have a discipler to walk with you for a certain period of time so that daily devotion become a good habit. Or, you may have a small group of two to three people to encourage and be accountable to each other so that you won’t stop your daily devotion. I offer myself as your online discipler to walk with you daily to enrich your spiritual journey. So, shall we start this journey with Jesus Christ our Lord now!

Please click the links below to 2 Kings 16:

Wow, what Jesus told me today after reading this chapter is a big deal! Really inspiring!

To reign without God is to live without oxygen

We read chapter 15 yesterday that all six kings of Israel were described as did evil in the eyes of the Lord but the two kings of Judah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Here we see the same thing came to a king of Judah that he not even did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord but he burnt his son to death and offer him to the idol.

Why? Well, the answer is that to reign without God is to live without oxygen. What would a man do when he is without oxygen? He would die, but before he die, he would try all things to have oxygen. That's why he did all kinds of foolish and "detestable"(v. 3) acts to worship other gods. Then without success he went to worship another king, the king of Assyria! He gave everything in God's temple and his palace to the king of Assyria and made an altar according to that he saw in Damascus.

You are blessed because you want to live by God's Word. But do you know that there are so many people who are without oxygen, trying all their best to get oxygen but going the wrong way. Can you help them so they can breathe freely? Remember, you can't but if you are willing, God can use you to give other people oxygen.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help us to live in you daily so that we can help others to live in you daily. In Jesus name we pray . Amen.

Please click the links below to 2 Kings 15:

Jesus led me to visualize how God sees this chapter. I saw God standing there seeing the history in this chapter unveiled. King after king being killed without any record of doing good things except the two kings of Judah Azariah and Jotham. These two kings had just a line mentioning that they did what was right in the eyes of the Lord but still offering sacrifices to other gods. All the other six kings of Israel were described as did evil in the eyes of the Lord. And then we know that the Northern kingdom Israel was finished and was conquered by Assyria. They were finished without saying a word, "Help us Lord!"

Jesus led me to read Isaiah 40: 15, 21-23:

15Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as the dust on the scales; behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust.

21 Do you not know? Do you not hear?

Has it not been told you from the beginning?

Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; 23 who brings kings to nothing, and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness.

Do you have some kind of dream to be on top of something, someone. Like CEO, President, top sales, top ... so what! Even those people were kings and God was watching them one by one falling down because of their ignorance and pride!

May the words from Isaiah 40: 27-31 give you some inspiration:

27Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, (AJ) "My way is hidden from the LORD, (AK) and my right is disregarded by my God"? 28Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is(AL) the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; (AM) his understanding is unsearchable. 29He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31but(AN) they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings(AO) like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help us to know how to wait for you so my strength can be renewed and that I can mount up with wings like eagles. In Jesus name we pray . Amen.

"You have indeed defeated Edom and now you are arrogant. Glory in your victory, but stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?"

2 Kings 14: 10

What I heard from Jesus today is that the cost of pride is huge. Not only causing the fall of Amaziah but the fall of the whole nation of Judah!

How careless we can be that we can fall into the same trap of Amaziah to have this kind of pride causing destruction to so many. Watch out for your own pride!

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help us to be humble before you and other fellow brothers and sisters so that we won't fall into the same trap as Amaziah . In Jesus name we pray . Amen.

Now Elisha was suffering from the illness from which he died. Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. "My father! My father!" he cried. "The chariots and horsemen of Israel!" 2 Kings 13: 14

I feel so sad today after I read this chapter. What a waste! It was not that they did not have God's servants to help them. They even had the most powerful prophet Elisha. And king Jehoash addressed Elisha as "father". From what Jehoash said we know that Elisha was active as a prophet even in Jehoahaz's (Jehoash's father) time. That's why in verse 4 he knew how to seek the Lord's favor. But both Jehoahaz and Jehoash did not learn the lesson of "listen and obey" and the just did not listen at all!

That is so sad! We have God's servants around us helping us to follow Jesus but lots of time because of our self-centreness and pride, we insist on our own way. How sad!

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to cherish those servants of yours around me so that I can follow your way and not my way. In Jesus name I pray . Amen.
