DAY 53 - What Kind of Desire Block You from Going to Church

Today’s Reading: Mark 4

(Please read Mark 4: 1 – 41 and listen to what the Lord Jesus Christ would like to tell you before reading my Spiritual Journal below. If you would like to learn a simple and good way of Daily Devotion method please read my “Count Down 5” from this blog. You may click this link directly for the method: Subject Shifting Devotion.pdf . (You may begin with a song to praise the Lord and complete you devotion by singing another praise song.)

Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Mark4:18 - 19

I am so sad when I heard a member of our church telling me that I am not going to see a dear brother for at least two month for he has been going out to sea every Sunday in a sailboat. And then he said, “You are not going to see me tomorrow for I have to take some photos for my friend.”

This is the real situation for the unfruitfulness of a Christian. What is more important than going to church to worship our Lord and King on Sunday? I would rather die if you forbid me to go to church on Sunday and yet these two young men don’t feel anything wrong of not going to church. I don’t think they have daily devotion either.

The Church is a real club for so many Christians that they have other clubs and choices to go to always and going to church or being close to Jesus is a very low priority. Are you one of them?

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me not to be distracted by other desires that I can be a fruitful disciple of you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

  1. Hi Silas,

These two days I just have the chance to review a 1981 film "Chariots of Fire" to encourage Olivia as she will have a cross-country meet with other athletes from all Burnaby schools.

Eric Liddell, the Scottish athlete who was also a missionary, refused to compete the 100m run on Sunday at the 1924 Paris Olympics and withdrawn from his best 100-m event just that He was a committed Christian and reserved the day for God. He finally turned to join the 400-m. At the day of the race, an American masseur slipped a piece of paper into his hand with a quotation from 1 Samuel 2:30, "Those who honour me I will honour." And he ran with that piece of paper in his hand. He not only won the race, but broke the world record.
As Eric said,"I believe that God made me for a purpose, but He also made fast. When I run, I feel His pleasure."
I wish I can also run, always running fast and feeling His pleasure.

    In Christ,
    Denny

  2. Hi Denny,
Did I tell you and other Holy Trinity Choir members in 1982 of how the Lord Jesus used Chariots of Fire to confirm my calling to go to the seminary? I was about to quit taking action to apply going to seminary but remain in the Hong Kong Government as a Music Officer. I went to the movie theatre five times to watch this movie and the Lord used this movie to change my heart.
Thanks for your sharing and I'll pray that your whole family will run for Jesus like that.

    In Christ,
    Silas
