DAY 234 - My Wife Michelle Has Leukemia

Please click this NEW LINK to pray for us(March 9, 2010 to June 16)!!!

Today’s Reading: 1 John 4

Welcome! The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christians to have daily devotion - a wonderful and intimate time with Jesus.

There are three reasons for you to use this blog as your daily devotion:
1. A healthy spiritual diet - One chapter of the Bible daily. We really need at least one chapter of Bible daily so that we are well fed.

2. A good example of Spiritual Journaling - What I have committed for 1,189 days(the Bible has 1,189 chapters)to write this daily post is not for teaching purposes but this is my daily spiritual journal - I write down what I hear from Jesus and how I experience His intimate relationship with me each day. I have launched a wide-spectrum research on daily devotion and have found out that there are less than 10% of Christians that are having daily devotion. Out of that 10%, many having daily devotion are doing so because of guilt (they know that they are Christians and need to have daily devotion and feel guilty if they don’t do that), duty (they need to fulfill their duty as a Christian) or study(lots of Christians primarily use their daily devotion as a time to study the Bible). I do pray and hope that you will make up your mind to have a relational daily devotion so that you can have an intimate time with Jesus. I pray that you will write your own spiritual journal as well.

3. An online discipler – One of the reasons that so many Christians do not have daily devotion is because they do not have a disciple. A discipler can help them build up this basic element of discipleship when they first become Christians. The best way for you is to have a discipler to walk with you for a certain period of time so that daily devotion become a good habit. Or, you may have a small group of two to three people to encourage and be accountable to each other so that you won’t stop your daily devotion. I offer myself as your online disciple to walk with you daily to enrich your spiritual journey. So, shall we start this journey with Jesus Christ our Lord now!

Please read 1 John 4 and listen to what the Lord Jesus Christ would like to tell you before reading my Spiritual Journal below. If you would like to learn a simple and good way of Daily Devotion method please read my “Count Down 5” from this blog. You may click this link directly for the method:Subject Shifting Devotion.pdf . (You may begin with a song to praise the Lord and complete you devotion by singing another praise song.)

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4: 12

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4: 18

Our family doctor and a doctor of Vancouver Cancer Clinic confirmed today that my wife Michelle has a very serious leukemia. They are going to get her to Vancouver General hopefully this coming Monday to test which of the five leukemia she has and start the treatment right away.

1 John 4: 18 is one of the two verse I usually give to people in critical condition. Psalm 23 is another one. Today we are in 1 John 4 and let's praise the Lord for His comfort and presence in this critical time.

What our son Ignatius got from Jesus to Michelle today is the Message version of John 11: 14-15, "Then Jesus became explicit: 'Lazarus died. And I am glad for your sakes that I wasn't there. You're about to be given new grounds for believing. Now let's go to him.' I talked to Iggy about how he felt the past few painful hours and he said he has been unusually calm in light of what the Lord's promised to give us according to John 11: 14-15. No matter we may face, we all will experience John 11:14-15! Just not more than one week after Iggy is accepted by Regent College for his M. Div. study to prepare himself to be an Anglican priest and Michelle is facing leukemia, this is a God-moment for us to experience Him on new grounds!

My wish is for you to pray for Michelle and our family to have faith and strength to get through this difficult time. And I do hope and pray that you can go to the 24 hours prayer list now and fill up at least one slot that the list can be filled up within 24 hours.

Dear Lord Jesus,

  1. Bishop,
You and Michelle and all of your family are tucked in our prayers, and in the prayers of our congregation here in Colorado Springs. We know God's faithfulness, and we also know how much we all need one another to remind us of that faithfulness, especially in such times.
    Bless you deeply,
    Sallie and Ken Ross

  2. I am writing here as a cancer survivor [Renal cancer 1991] whose cancer has recently returned in my prostate with words of support and encouragement from one who has journeyed "through the valley of the shadow of death" accompanied by my Lord and Saviour and so many of my brothers and sisters in Christ and emerged healed [minus one kidney] on the other side. So now I am again on that journey and consider it an inexpressible joy and privilege to travel with my sister Michelle and be in solidarity with her.

Hear the prayer we offer for all your people and remember in your mercy those for whom we pray; heal the sick, raise the fallen, stregthen the fainthearted, bring light to those in darkness and enfold in your mercy the fearful and those who have no hope [CCP p.265]
