Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 24
Please read 1 Samuel 24 and listen to what the Lord Jesus Christ would like to tell you before reading my Spiritual Journal below. If you would like to learn a simple and good way of Daily Devotion method please read my “Count Down 5” from this blog. You may click this link directly for the method: Subject Shifting Devotion.pdf. (You may begin with a song to praise the Lord and complete you devotion by singing another praise song.)

Please click the links below to 1 Samuel 24:
See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand! I cut off the corner of your robe but did not kill you. Now understand and recognize that I am not guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion. I have not wronged you, but you are hunting me down to take my life. 1 Samuel 24: 11

Praise the Lord that when we read this chapter, it is again a "God's timing"!

Jesus showed me in a deep way what the title He gave me today means. "Some choose to kill, I choose to bless"! It is beyond this chapter and what David did to King Saul because of what I saw in Rwanda today.

I saw the Memorial Centre that they buried 250,000 people who were among the one million people the Hutus killed within 100 days from April to July 1994! But there were Hutus who did not want to kill. I saw a lot that sadden my heart! The Rwandan chose to forgive and gave those murderers opportunities. Only less than 10 leaders were executed.

On the other hand, I see how much love the Rwandan shows! A newly ordained deacon and his wife, Maurice and Hope, came to the airport to pick me up to the hotel yesterday and they went home at 1 a.m.! Then I got a call at 1 p.m. on the phone and he said, "Silas, this is the Archbishop. I am in the lobby, are you too sleepy to come down?" It was Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini with two of his priests who came over to have lunch with me 12 hours after I landed in Rwanda. I told him that I do not need anyone to take me to the airport Monday morning, for it would be 4:45a.m.. You know what he said, "No, Silas. We'll take you there for it is Rwandan hospitality!"

Maurice showed me his grandfather's picture in clergy shirt. He told me his grandfather was among many Anglican priests and bishops killed on that 100 days!

I have seen so many killing everywhere in the world. But the most hurting moment is to see how Christians killing Christians in a kind of non-Christian way through black-mouth, power struggle, writing letters of accusation, mobilizing "riot", separation, smiling in front of you and shake your hand but shooting arrows at your back...that is so sad! You can't tell those people to stop for they are being misled by Satan whose names are Deceiver, Accuser, Separator, Destroyer... What you can do is to be led by the Holy Spirit so that even they choose to kill you, you choose to bless them. You can never do that in your own strength. But if you have a true daily devotion, a daily intimate relationship with Jesus, then Jesus can help you to do that.

Remember: Some choose to kill, you choose to bless!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me to be a channel of peace to forgive and to be able to bless. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Welcome! The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christians to have daily devotion - a wonderful and intimate time with Jesus.

There are three reasons for you to use this blog as your daily devotion:
  1. A healthy spiritual diet - One chapter of the Bible daily. We really need at least one chapter of Bible daily so that we are well fed.
  2. A good example of Spiritual Journaling - What I have committed for 1,189 days(the Bible has 1,189 chapters) to write this daily post is not for teaching purposes but this is my daily spiritual journal - I write down what I hear from Jesus and how I experience His intimate relationship with me each day. I have launched a wide-spectrum research on daily devotion and have found out that there are less than 10% of Christians that are having daily devotion. Out of that 10%, many having daily devotion are doing so because of guilt (they know that they are Christians and need to have daily devotion and feel guilty if they don’t do that), duty (they need to fulfill their duty as a Christian) or study(lots of Christians primarily use their daily devotion as a time to study the Bible). I do pray and hope that you will make up your mind to have a relational daily devotion so that you can have an intimate time with Jesus. I pray that you will write your own spiritual journal as well.
  3. An online discipler – One of the reasons that so many Christians do not have daily devotion is because they do not have a discipler. A discipler can help them build up this basic element of discipleship when they first become Christians. The best way for you is to have a discipler to walk with you for a certain period of time so that daily devotion become a good habit. Or, you may have a small group of two to three people to encourage and be accountable to each other so that you won’t stop your daily devotion. I offer myself as your online discipler to walk with you daily to enrich your spiritual journey. So, shall we start this journey with Jesus Christ our Lord now!

  1. Thank you, Bishop Silas, for the pictures and thoughts from Rwanda. I am reminded about what Thomas Watson once said: Prayer delights God’s ear; it melts His heart; and opens His hand. God cannot deny a praying soul.

    Blessings, Ed Hird+
