Bible Study

The first great eagle refers to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon(v.12), who had a covenant with Judah that he would not destroy them. The topmost shoot refers to King Jehoiachin of Judah, who was taken away to Babylon(2 King 24: 11-16).

The second eagle refers to the pharaoh of Egypt. King Zedekiah, the last king of Judah, rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar and turned to Egypt for military aid. And Ezekiel prophesied that the "east wind", which refers to the Babylonian army would come and King Zedekiah would be taken captive to Babylon and would die there(vv. 16-21).

The Ezekiel prophesied that God would plant a branch himself and that would be the Messiah, Jesus Christ, whose Kingdom would be established and grow throughout the whole earth.

If you were those kings and authorities, what would you respond to Ezekiel's warning and prophecies? What would you choose between that two evils - Babylon or Egypt? What do you respond to those warnings and prophecies from God's servants to you if you have any on those around you? If you do not, why? Are you too far away from God? If you were Ezekiel, would you dare to say all those things to those dignities God wants you to say?

My Spiritual Journal

What I got from Jesus today is: Choose Babylon or Egypt?

Of course the model answer is not to choose either of them. But, if you are away from God or you nation are away from God and now you have to choose between two evils, what would you choose?

What I heard from Jesus today is that we need to choose to follow Jesus as soon as possible in order that we do not need to choose between two evils!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to follow you daily that someday we do not need to choose between two evils. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
