Bible Study

This chapter shows how God through Ezekiel warned the Jews that God's judgment against Jerusalem and Judah would come by God's sword through the Babylonian army. God was going to use Babylon as His sword to destroy Judah. Because God's people had not accepted his warnings and correction, God allowed them to suffer the consequences. During times of God's punishment, good and bad people suffer alike. However, Ezekiel had already made it clear in 18: 1-24 that the righteous would not experience the eternal punishment of the wicked.

Verses 19 to 23 shows that those witches of Babylon believed they could tell the future by examining the livers of dead animals (v. 21). Ezekiel declared that God controlled and overruled King Nebuchadnezzar's ungodly practices in order to accomplish His plans.

Do you understand sometimes when we are too stubborn, rebellious and unfaithful, God will use His sword to destroy us in order to save us. I have seen too many cases happened and no one can confront with God's sword!

God says:
Return the sword to its scabbard.
In the place where you were created,
in the land of your ancestry,
I will judge you. Ezekiel 21: 30

Yes, return your sword to its scabbard and God would not pull His sword to teach you a hard lesson!

My Spiritual Journal

What I got from Jesus today is: God sword Vs your sword!

Jesus asked me to count the number of His sword and our sword. There are 15 times God's sword here in this chapter and only one time mentioning our sword.

Actually it's talking about the "lordship". We so often pull out our sword trying to take control and to lord other people. But, when God pull His sword against us, we have no way to run, because He is the true Lord. Why don't let Him to lord you, guide you and love you instead of having Him to pull His sword against you? Why?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to return our sword to the scabbard so that you won't pull your sword against us. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
