Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant."
Jeremiah 1: 9-10

Bible Study

Jeremiah was called by God to be a prophet to the southern kingdom of Judah. His ministry spanned the last 40 years of Judah's history, in luding the time right before and after Jerusalem's destruction and the deportation of its people to Babylon (627-586B.C.). He ministered during the reigns of Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin and Zedekiah. During most of that time, the nation was rebelling against God and relying on political alliances with other nations for security and protection from its enemies. Jeremiah urged the people to repent, warning them that they would suffer punishment for rejecting God.

This first chapter records how God called and gave authority to Jeremiah to be a prophet delivering God's messages to His people. It records how God gave Jeremiah His word that Jeremiah will be under God's protection that no one can touch him.

My Spiritual Journal

What I receive from Jesus is: Receive your authority!

An hour ago I finished writing and recording my Daily Devotion on Fire blog and podcasts. The message I got from the Lord of Mark 11: 27 to 33 is about authority. How do we know that God has given us authority to do His Kingdom work. Here in the first chapter of Jeremiah seems the second part of the message I received from Jesus today. What is the content of the authority we have received.

For Jeremiah it is that he got words from the Lord to deliver to God's people and that he can exercise the power to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.

Do you know the content of your authority? How can Jeremiah's authority helps you to understand more about your authority. After all, it should be very much alike!

How do you like Jeremiah's authority? How can you have the courage to exercise that authority?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to know the content of the authority you give us and be courageous to exercise those authorities. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
