Bible Study
This chapter describes the disaster that would soon come upon God's people because of their sin and rebellion. They would learn how evil and regretful it was to reject the Lord.
To avoid the terrible disaster that was coming, the people of Judah had to undergo a complete moral renewal, a change of heart by committing themselves to doing what God says is right and staying in right relationship with him. The evil in their hearts had to be removed just as the foreskin was removed in physical circumcision.(v. 4)
If the Jews do not listen and change their hearts, God would cause the Babylonians to invade Judah and allow them to devastate the land. There would be total destruction as if the whole universe had been devastated and changed back into the formlessness it had before God began to shape and create the world(v. 23).
We know that the Jews did not listen and did not change at all! Everything Jeremiah prophesied happened.
Are we willing to listen and change? It's your choice!
My Spiritual Journal
What I receive from Jesus is: It's your choice to change!
What I got from Jesus is that we are having the same warning as in those days and same invitation to change. We really need to have a spiritual circumcision, a moral and spiritual renewal. The question is, do we know we need that and are we willing to change?
It's your choice!
Dear Holy Spirit,
Help us to understand that we desperately need a spiritual circumcision and renewal. Pour down your fresh anointing on us that we have the strength to change. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
