The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband…Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 1 Corinthians 7: 3-5

There are so many marital problems nowadays. The divorce rate of Christians and non-Christians are very similar, over 50%. Paul had a long time ago analyzed the reason in this Chapter. The practical one is that husbands and wives are not fulfilling their marital duty, especially concerning sexual intimacy. And the deeper issue is that when sexual needs are not satisfied, then Satan will tempt either party because of his or her lack of self-control.

Of course there are many other 'reasons' for a couple to divorce but Paul stated a very clear and real 'reason' for husbands and wives to consider. For unmarried men or women, Satan has the same method to tempt you through your lack of self-control.

Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him…Keeping God’s commands is what counts. 1 Corinthians 7: 17- 19

The most important issue is just one: keeping God’s commands is what counts!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me to love my wife and to fulfill my marital duty to her. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
