Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Jesus told me, “Do you know that you have a new Office?” I replied, “Yes, my Lord. An office as a bishop.” He then said, “Not only that but the most important I give you and other disciples is the Office of Reconciliation. Are you willing to fulfill the requirement of this office?” “Oh, I think I have been doing that.” Jesus responded: “It’s not enough!”
Yes, it is not enough. Jesus turned my eyes to Paul’s three steps of taking this new office:
1. A ministry of reconciliation – bringing people back to God through Jesus.
2. A message of reconciliation – preaching how this can happen.
3. A commission of reconciliation – to be the ambassadors of Jesus to bring reconciliation.
In fact, Paul knew that those fellow workers of him (2 Cor. 6:1) were doing opposite things: bring destruction rather than reconciliation. The new cannot come because the old cannot go. Change is never easy, and transformation always sounds so remote and difficult. The situation was so difficult for Paul to help his fellow workers to be transformed in Christ, and the only hope was to receive this new office. This new office helps them and us to not be the ambassadors of the Deceiver bringing division, dissension, and destruction but true ambassadors of Christ to bring Reconciliation.
