Please click the links below to Jeremiah 50:
"My people have been lost sheep;
their shepherds have led them astray and caused them to roam on the mountains.
They wandered over mountain and hill and forgot their own resting place.
Whoever found them devoured them;
their enemies said, 'We are not guilty,
for they sinned against the Lord their true pasture,
the Lord, the hope of their fathers.'"
"Israel is a scattered flock that lions have chased away.
The first to devour him was the king of Assyria;
the last to crush his bones was Nebuchaknezzar king of Babylon."
Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:
"I will punish the king of Babylon and his land
as I punished the king of Assyria.
But I will bring Israel back to his own pasture and he will graze on Carmel and Bashan;
his appetite will be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and Gilead."
Jeremiah 50: 6-7, 17-19
Bible Study
When Jeremiah wrote this chapter to prophesy the downfall of Babylon, the Jews were in exile in Babylon and in danger of being assimilated into that culture. Jeremiah predicted its downfall five years before it conquered Jerusalem (51: 59-60). However, Jeremiah's prophecy goes beyond Babylon's future defeat by Cyrus of Persia. It predicts a destruction of Babylon culture at the end of the tribulation period many years after today!
From verse 6-7 and 17-19 we can see clearly why the Jews had to suffer like this:
1. They were like lost sheep.
2. Their shepherds led them astray.
3. The wandered around over all places to search for pasture but forgot their own resting place, their true pasture who is the Lord.
Are you just like them wardering around for your pasture but forget your own resting place, your true pasture who is our Lord Jesus Christ and His Word?
My Spiritual Journal
What I got from Jesus today is: Don't leave you true pasture!
Babylon was somewhat like the USSR(Russia) in the 60's or USA nowadays.
How can that happen that such a big nation as USSR will fall like that in the 70's! Do you think that USA will fall like that in the future? I hope and pray that it won't happen. But is USA leaves God, it will happen just like that!
How about you?
Do you have good shepherds leading you to the true pasture daily?
Are you willing to go to the pasture daily?
Well, at least you are today because you are reading this blog and having a daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus! Can you be a Evangelist/Discipler 123 to lead more people to the true pasture? Which means, can you be a "shepherd"?
You may think that you do not have the gifts to do that, it must be the pastors job, right? Not at all, as stated clearly in verse 6 and 7, anyone who can lead God's sheep to the true pasture is a good shepherd.
You can do it! Please start doing it now!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to lead more people to the resting place, the true pasture, you, our Lord Jesus Christ. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
