Bible Study

The title of this book comes from the subtitle in the Greek and Latin versions of the Old Testament - "The Lamentations of Jeremiah." Both Jewish and Christian traditions have long considered Jeremiah to be the author of Lamentations.

Verse 18 expresses the main them of Lamentations: sin brings sorrow.
Jeremiah mourns the fact that Jerusalem has been destroyed. He grieved by the tragic circumstances that led to the destruction, the people's rebellion toward God. The holy city is personified as a deserted widow who has lot her children and been betrayed by her friends. she is left completely alone with no one to comfort her.

In verse 5 Jeremiah shows that the suffering, devastation and loss were a result of sin - going their own way and rejecting God and his purpose of their lives.

My Spiritual Journal

What I got from Jesus today is: The wrath of God! The sorrow of Jeremiah!

When I read this chapter I feel a kind of deep pain for the unnecessary destruction of God's people! They went too far!

Those who go their own way and ignore the Holy spirit speaking to their inner conscience are living dangerously. Stubborn and unfaithful always leads us to isolation, pain and self-destruction!

We can avoid such unnecessary consequences by having a real daily intimate personal relationship with God to live a lifestyle of Christlikeness. Then, this would not happen to us. More than that, we can be used by God to help more people to get rid of their darkness and self-destruction path into an Emmanuel path!

No one can face with the wrath of God! Repent, before it is too late!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to know what do we have to repent and that we can follow you as our Saviour and Lord of life. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
