Bible Study

Moreover, our eyes failed,
looking in vain for help;
from our towers we watched for a nation that could not save us.
Lamentations 4: 17

There is a clear and painful contrast of the former glories with the present devastation brought on by the people's disregard for God and his warnings. Things had become so extreme that families even resorted to cannibalism in order to survive (v. 10. Jer. 19:9).

Jeremiah lists two main categories of sin that resulted in Judah's tragic condition:
1. The corruption of those who claimed to be spiritual leaders.
2. The people's trust in human and political alliances rather than in God for security and success.

What does your eyes lift up to recently?

My Spiritual Journal

What I got from Jesus today is: Our eyes failed!

Our eyes lift up to so many things but those things may not be able or never can save us. We have wasted too much time on lots of things distracting us from lifting our eyes to Jesus!

The Lord reminds me of how He taught me in 1992 that Psalm 121 becomes my most important point of reference turning my eyes back to focus on Jesus from all those distractions.

I lift my eyes to the hills-
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip-
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber no sleep.

The Lord watches over you-
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
not the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm-
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us always to lift up our eyes to you that we won't waste our lives to all those distractions pulling us away from you. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
