Paul circumcised Timothy because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey. So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers. Acts 16: 3- 5
There are lots of time when we waste our energy and time on things that we do not need to insist on. Many times we make small things a big deal. That is so sad!
Paul showed us a good example of when not to insist on doing something. It is ironic to read this after a whole chapter of how Paul and Barnabas had a sharp dispute and debate with Christians at Jerusalem. After Peter and the Council of Jerusalem let go of the need of circumcision for gentiles, Paul had Timothy circumcised. If you were Paul, do you have the wisdom and discernment to do that?
What I received from Jesus today is that we need to pray for this kind of gift of wisdom and discernment so that we are willing to let go of what we insist on but not to let go of what Jesus insists on. Our aim is that Christians may be “strengthened in the faith and grow daily in number.”(Acts 16: 5)
Dear Lord Jesus, Open my eyes to see what you want me to see and not to insist on my own will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
