DAY 125 - Controlled by the Spirit

Today’s Reading: Romans 8

Please read Romans 8: 1 – 39 and listen to what the Lord Jesus Christ would like to tell you before reading my Spiritual Journal below. If you would like to learn a simple and good way of Daily Devotion method please read my “Count Down 5” from this blog. You may click this link directly for the method: Subject Shifting Devotion.pdf . (You may begin with a song to praise the Lord and complete you devotion by singing another praise song.)

The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Romans 8:1-39

The Lord told me today that the problem today for most Christians is submission and commitment. The reason is very simple: their minds are set on what the sinful nature desires and not on what the Spirit desires.

We do not want to be controlled by the Spirit but we are controlled by the sinful nature. That’s why we are so hostile to other people. We don’t know we are hostile to God in the same way. We think that some people want to control us. We don’t know it is God’s work to work through God’s people so that we can be controlled by the Spirit!

In April 1982 my wife Michelle who was then a choir member of my home parish, Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Hong Kong, gave me a 3”x2” bookmark:

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Romans 8: 35

God used Michelle to lead me back to a mindset of submission to the call of our Lord Jesus Christ not to insist on my own desire to climb up the ladder in the Government but to go to seminary and prepare myself to become an Anglican priest.

The mindset and path to submission to the Holy Spirit is not easy, but definitely it is life and peace. About which mindset and path are you being warned and called today, my dear friend?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for giving me an opportunity to change my mindset and submit to you 28 years ago. Help me to submit to you daily and be willing to be controlled by you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
